Lacey Act

The Lacey Act was enacted in 1900. This Act bans the illegal trafficking of animals, plants and plant products made from illegally logged woods. This Act regulates the importation of any animals and plants banned by treaties of any kind, whether domestic or international. The Act has provided whistleblower rewards since 1983, at the discretion of the government, to anyone who provides information that leads to a successful enforcement action by the government. This includes a criminal conviction or a civil assessment against the defendant violating the Lacey Act.
